Privacy policy

MatTalX keeps what you write and how you like it set up. It makes no network requests of any kind: there is no server behind it and nothing is sent to us. The only addresses in it are the Documentation and GitHub links, which open a tab when you click them.

What is kept

The text left in the first box, so that you can change tabs and carry on where you were. The settings: 'Adjust spaces', 'Mathematical font', 'Math mode', dark mode, the font and its size, the copy shortcuts, and whether the completion button and the main symbols are shown. And the commands you have built, whether with \newcommand, \renewcommand, \DeclareMathOperator or \DeclareUnicodeCharacter.

Where it is kept

On Firefox, in the add-on's storage on this device. On Chrome, in the extension's sync storage: if you are signed in to Chrome with syncing turned on, Google carries it to your other Chrome installs, the way it carries your bookmarks. With syncing off it stays on the device. Either way it never reaches us.

The permissions

MatTalX asks for two permissions[1] on Firefox and three on Chrome. Storage[2], to keep all of the above. activeTab[3], and on Chrome scripting, for the two shortcuts that work inside a page. MatTalX can touch no page until you press Alt+Shift+W or Alt+Shift+C; pressing one gives it the tab you are on, that once. It then reads the field you are writing in, all of it or only what you have selected, converts it and writes it back. There is no content script, so nothing of MatTalX runs anywhere you have not asked it to.

MatTalX does NOT have access to your browsing history, your other tabs, or pages you are not writing in.

The site loads nothing from anyone else and sets no cookies. The web version keeps the same things as the extension in your browser's own storage, on your device, and sends them nowhere. The site is served by GitHub Pages, which, like any web host, sees the requests it serves.
